The Village is sharing the below tips, information, and reminders regarding the Fourth of July 2023.
Frontier Days Festival: June 30th - July 4th
Frontier Days will take place from June 30th - July 4th at Recreation Park and is hosted by community volunteers and Frontier Days Festival, Inc. The Village is reminding residents and guests to please use caution if navigating the event areas and to watch for pedestrians.
Frontier Days Festival offers daily events including carnival rides, concessions, and concerts at Recreation Park. Frontier Days Inc. is seeking volunteers! You can sign up as an individual or group. Learn more on their website.
Frontier Days Shuttles
Shuttles will be running throughout the duration of the event. Please be considerate and mindful of where you park, to not block driveways or block hydrants. Violators are subject to ticketing. See shuttle map and schedule
Disability Day: July 1st
The Village's Commission for Citizens with Disabilities are inviting residents and visitors to attend Disability Days at Frontier Days on July 1st! Disability Day is an annual celebration that invites individuals with disabilities and their families to attend a day of fun at Arlington Heights Frontier Days. Disability Day events include:

- 9:30 - 11 a.m.: Check in at Pool Entrance
- 10 - 11:15 a.m.: Rides
- 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.: Luncheon
- 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.: Entertainment
Join Frontier Days for their Stampede Run offering a 5K or 10K Run, a 5K Walk, and a 1/4 Mile Kids Dash. All races start and finish on Frontier Days grounds at the intersection of Miner Street and Douglas Avenue.
Fourth of July Parade: July 4th
The Fourth of July parade steps off at 10 a.m. from Dunton & Oakton, traveling South on Dunton to Miner, and then east to Recreation Park for the Frontier Days Festival.
Accessibility & Parking for Fourth of July Parade
Frontier Days Inc. and The Village of Arlington Heights Commission for Citizens with Disabilities have secured an area for people in wheelchairs, directly in front of the reviewing stand and across the street from the Library. This area will be used for viewing our annual 4th of July Parade. The area will be marked as reserved and will accommodate 12 people in wheelchairs plus one companion.
Temporary Handicap parking spaces will be conveniently located South of the Wheelchair seating area in the Library’s parking lot. These spaces (along the East side of the Library’s parking lot) will be marked as Temporary Handicap Parking Spaces for the morning of the Parade only. Please come and enjoy the parade!
Saving Spaces for Parade
Please be a good neighbor and remember to not place any blankets, chairs, etc. on the parkways and sidewalks along the parade route prior to 7 p.m., July 3. Past practices of reserving a space with blankets, tarps, chairs, etc. to ensure a good viewing spot can cause damage to grass, impede pedestrians, and are problematic for homeowners along the route who may need to water their parkways or mow their lawns.

Village Offices will be closed on Tuesday, July 4th in honor of the Independence Day holiday. Offices will reopen on Wednesday, July 5th for normal business hours.
Groot Holiday Schedule Observed
Groot will be recognizing a holiday schedule on July 4th. Collection will be delayed by one day.
No Tornado Siren Testing
The Arlington Heights Fire Department is reminding residents that there will be no tornado siren testing on Tuesday, July 4th at 10 a.m., due to the Fourth of July Parade taking place at this time.
Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over
Arlington Heights Police have announced plans for stepped-up July Fourth traffic enforcement with a focus on impaired and unbuckled drivers. The safety campaign will run from June 16 through the early-morning hours of July 5 to encompass three summer weekends leading up to and after Independence Day.
Arlington Heights Police are asking all residents and visitors to celebrate Independence Day safely. It's simple: If you're driving, don't drink, use marijuana or other drugs. Our officers will be working around the clock to keep impaired drivers off the road and enforce all other traffic laws. The Arlington Heights Police Department will join the Illinois State Police and more than 200 local police and sheriff's departments for the increased statewide enforcement effort.
Use these tips to help ensure a happy and safe holiday:
- Designate a sober driver and give them your keys before you go out.
- Don't let friends or family members drive under the influence.
- Promptly report impaired drivers to law enforcement by pulling over and dialing 9-1-1.
- Make sure everyone in your vehicle wears their seat belt. It's not only the law, but it's your best defense against an impaired driver.
Fireworks Safety
As Independence Day approaches and our community begins to celebrate July 4th, the Arlington Heights Fire Department is reminding residents that all fireworks can be dangerous. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, there were approximately 15,600 fireworks-related, emergency department-treated injuries in 2020. This is a 50% increase in deaths and injuries over 2019.
Fireworks Safety Reminders:
- Be sure you are using legal fireworks, such as sparklers. Remember, sparklers might seem like a safer alternative, however, they can heat up to 1,200 °F. Do not allow children to use them without adult supervision.
- Generally, any firework that must be lit by a wick, explodes, and/or shoots into the air are illegal in Illinois.
- Use all fireworks outside, away from homes, people, trees, dry grass, or any other flammable substances.
- When handling fireworks always have a bucket of water and a fire extinguisher nearby.
- If injured by a firework, go to a doctor immediately. If it is an eye injury, do not rub the injury, as that may cause more damage.
- The best way to prevent firework injuries is to not use them at all. Attend public firework displays and leave the igniting to the professionals.
Fireworks Display Update
The Arlington Heights fireworks have long been privately hosted and paid for. There are no plans to host a community fireworks display for 2023. The Village of Arlington Heights is working to explore potential options and/or partnerships for firework shows in future years. Any updates will be shared with the public.
