useful technology of
Geographic Information
Systems (GIS) information.
By using the technology of
GIS, you get much more than
a map!
You can choose to view
different
"layers"
of information such as
locations of utilities,
sidewalks, parkway trees,
boundaries of school
districts, location of parks
and train stations, zoning
information and other
details pertaining to a
certain parcel (sample
maps). One of the most
useful maps is the Village's
zoning map, which is
a detailed visual showcase
of our community and its
zoning districts, locations
of various parcels and the
complete street network.
We traditionally think of
mapping as featuring roads,
cities, lakes and
undeveloped areas - with GIS
technology on computers,
mapping becomes alive with
layers of helpful, public
information that is of great
help to residents, Village
Departments, record keepers,
developers, etc. With GIS,
geography and existing data
combine to create a visual
representation of a
geographical area.
