Full-Time Positions

Building & Life Safety Department | Assistant Building Official
The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Building Official in the Building & Life Safety Department.

Responsibilities include but not limited to: supervising the work of permits, inspections, and licensing functions; reviews, monitors and makes recommendations about field work and operational issues; interprets and makes decisions on technical matters related to construction projects and issuance of permits, reviews drawings, plans and documents for compliance with Village Building Codes and Standards, and assists in updating Village Codes. Strong ability in customer service, training, and guiding the work of others. 

Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree and five years related experience including two years supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. International Code Council Certified Building Official Certification or the ability to obtain within one year. Master Code Professional Certification preferred. Valid Illinois Driver's License required. 

Minimum starting salary is $101,701. Includes excellent benefits package.

Public Works Department | Store Keeper
The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of Storekeeper in the Public Works Department. Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent (GED), with three years of experience in storekeeping, inventory control, or recordkeeping, working in an automotive parts or general storeroom or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.  Additional Requirements: Valid Illinois Commercial Driver’s License Class A with airbrake and tanker endorsements or ability to obtain within three months of date of hire, and possess ability to safely operate a forklift.  

Responsibilities include but are not limited to, maintenance of the Public Works storeroom which includes collection and stocking of materials and supplies, inventory control, record and reporting and distribution as required. Receives, stores, and issues various parts, equipment, material and supplies including automotive, janitorial, water meters, clothing and small tools. Processes invoices and prepares reports of materials and supplies consumed. Performs snow and ice removal and salting as needed. Completes other duties as assigned.  

Minimum starting salary for this position is $49,905. Includes excellent benefits package.

Public Works Department | Water Distribution Foreman II
The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of Water Distribution Foreman II in the Public Works Department. 

Under general supervision directs and manages the operation of a unit that constructs, repairs and maintains Village water and sewer systems and related facilities. Follows the EPA Safe Drinking Water Act, AWWA Best Practices, OSHA regulations, Illinois State Plumbing Code and Village policies. Performs other duties as assigned. 

This position requires high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) with extensive technical or specialized training and 4-6 or more years of experience in water. Two or more of the required years of experience to include lead work or supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. IEPA Class C Water Certification required. 

Additional requirements include possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A with air brake endorsement or ability to obtain in six months. Must be able to respond to emergency call outs. Knowledge in trench shoring and confined space entry, methods, tools, materials and equipment used in public works construction, maintenance, repair of water and related facilities and systems. Experience in human resource management practices including interviewing, training, delegation, discipline and performance appraisals.

This position assists project engineers in design, field layout, and construction inspection of roadway, sidewalk, and utility improvements. Candidates must have completed at least one year in accredited engineering program.

Planning & Community Development Department
INTERNSHIP

The Village of Arlington Heights, a northwest suburb of Chicago with a population 75,100, is seeking an Intern in the Planning & Community Development Department for the summer of 2018. Applicants should possess or be in the process of obtaining a Bachelors or Masters Degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, or related field. Intern will work on a variety of projects including downtown redevelopment, code review, and other special studies as required. Applicant should possess computer skills in Microsoft Office and CAD.

FORESTRY INTERN

The Village of Arlington Heights, a northwest suburb of Chicago, population 75,101 is seeking a temporary Forestry Intern in the Public Works Department. Applicants should be in the process of obtaining a degree in the field of Forestry, Forestry Management, Botany, Ecology or a related field. This position will require knowledge of tree identification and tree physiology.

Applicant must be able to work independently and outdoors for an extended period of time. Computer skills in Microsoft Office and ArcMap are a plus, but not required. Must be a minimum of 18 years old, ability to lift 50 pounds, ability to climb ladders, and operate power tools & equipment.

Hours for this position will be scheduled between 6:00am – 4:30pm, Monday through Friday, $13.50 per hour. A valid Driver’s License is required.

Health & Human Services Department 
ON-CALL REGISTERED NURSE

The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of on-call temporary Registered Nurse to work on an on-call basis. Work hours may include weekends and Fourth of July. 

Strong immunization screening and vaccine administration skills required. First aid skills also necessary. Must be CPR certified. Candidate should possess strong communication skills. A valid State of Illinois license as a Registered Nurse as well as a valid Illinois driver’s license is required.

PART-TIME COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSE

The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of part-time Community Health Nurse. Work hours are 22.5 per week from 8:30am-5:00pm and may include Monday, Wednesday and Thursday and the ability to be flexible which will be discussed during the interview process. This position will also be required to work temporary events that include evenings, weekends or holidays.

Responsibilities include assessing and providing nursing care to patients in their homes, at clinic sites, in school settings, etc., as part of a comprehensive community health care program. The preferred candidate will possess strong community health skills including geriatric assessments, wellness clinics, TB (Mantoux) administration and interpretation. This position would work independently and draw upon their education, training and experience in making determinations as to the most appropriate manner in which to carry out their nursing duties. Requirements include a Bachelor degree in Nursing and three or more years of previous nursing experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. A valid State of Illinois license as a registered nurse and state issued driver’s license are also required. Possession of a valid CPR Certification or ability to attain within 1 month of hire including first aide certification and vision and hearing screening certification when classes are available. Computer knowledge in Microsoft Office products, planning, confidentially, and organizational skills, strong work ethic, outstanding customer service and the ability to work as a member of a team. Minimum starting hourly rate for this position is $40.47 per hour, effective January 15, 2018.

Senior Center
TEMPORARY ON-CALL ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of temporary On-Call Administrative Assistant to fill-in at the Senior Center. This position would work on an as needed basis and the hours would vary depending on the hours of operation; Monday and Wednesday would work hours as needed between 8:00 a.m. to 8:15 p.m; Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. This position provides support by performing a variety of activities, such as word processing, data entry and miscellaneous other office duties and must demonstrate exceptional people skills. Responsibilities include coverage of the Senior Center switchboard, program registration and assistance to the Senior Center patrons. The candidate will need to effectively communicate with the Senior Center Manager, Senior Center Main Office Staff and other Agencies. Requirements include one or more years of secretarial experience, computer knowledge in Microsoft Office products, planning and organizational skills, strong work ethic and the ability to work as a member of a team.
