Part-Time Permit Technician | Building & Life Safety Department

The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of Part-Time Permit Technician in the Building & Life Safety Department. This position will work up to 19 hours per week, within the hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Under general supervision, this position would perform tasks to support the coordination of the permit application process and inspection and licensing verification. This position would also provide service to the front counter by providing guidance to the walk-in general public. Responsibilities include processing construction permit applications, applications for businesses, solicitations and other licenses and assisting with FOIA requests. 

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and three years of related experience that includes a high volume of public contact or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.  Additional requirements include typing, data entry and general computer operations. Knowledge of municipal ordinances relating to building regulations and some knowledge of the construction related industry preferred. 

Minimum hourly rate is $29.43.

Part-Time Community Health Nurse | Health & Human Services Department

The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of part-time Community Health Nurse.  Work hours are 22.5 per week from 8:30am-5:00pm and may include Monday, Wednesday and Thursday and the ability to be flexible which will be discussed during the interview process. This position will also be required to work temporary events that include evenings, weekends or holidays.

 

Responsibilities include assessing and providing nursing care to patients in their homes, at clinic sites, in school settings, etc., as part of a comprehensive community health care program. The preferred candidate will possess strong community health skills including geriatric assessments, wellness clinics, TB (Mantoux) administration and interpretation. This position would work independently and draw upon their education, training and experience in making determinations as to the most appropriate manner in which to carry out their nursing duties.

Requirements include a Bachelor degree in Nursing and three or more years of previous nursing experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. A valid State of Illinois license as a registered nurse and state issued driver’s license are also required. Possession of a valid CPR Certification or ability to attain within 1 month of hire including first aide certification and vision and hearing screening certification when classes are available. Computer knowledge in Microsoft Office products, planning, confidentially, and organizational skills, strong work ethic, outstanding customer service and the ability to work as a member of a team.

Minimum starting hourly rate for this position is $40.47 per hour, effective January 15, 2018.

Part-Time Administrative Assistant | Integrated Services Department – Manager’s Office

The Village of Arlington Heights is seeking candidates for a part-time position of Administrative Assistant in the Integrated Services Department/Manager’s Office. This position will work 25 hours a week, Monday through Thursday from 1:00pm to 5:00pm and Fridays from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Will perform work of moderate difficulty requiring the ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments. Provides skilled administrative support for the department, which includes the handling of liquor licenses, scheduling meeting rooms, assisting with processes relating to community events, preparing correspondence, processing payments for invoices, ordering and managing office supplies. Duties also include answering multi-line incoming phones, assisting residents/visitors on the phone and at the counter while providing outstanding customer service. Performs data entry of incoming requests and record keeping.

The qualified candidate should possess a minimum of three years of experience performing a variety of administrative and secretarial responsibilities, computer knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite, communication, writing and organizational skills, strong work ethic and the ability to work as a member of a team. Municipal experience preferred.

Maintenance Worker I | Public Works Department

The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of Maintenance Worker I, Street Unit, in the Public Works Department.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent (GED), one or more years of experience in general or municipal maintenance and repair or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.  Additional Requirement: Valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A with airbrake and tanker endorsements is preferred but must be obtained within six months of hire.  Must be able to respond for scheduled and unscheduled overtime due to snow events, wind storms, flooding events, water main repairs, special events, and other unforeseen emergency occurrences.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to, maintaining repairs and reconstructing Village streets, curbs, sidewalks, parking garages, and other roadway structures.  Performs hot mix asphalt, concrete and paver brick sidewalk repairs. Performs snow and ice removal.  Operates equipment and machinery including front-end loaders, backhoe loaders, and skid steer loaders.  Operates street, sidewalk, and parking garage sweepers. May operate equipment that is more complex for extended periods of time. This is a multi-level position classification.

Utility Technician | Public Works Department

The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of Utility Technician in the Public Works Department.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to maintaining and updating reference maps and systems regarding utility specifications, field documents, GIS System, drawings and maps pertaining to sewer, water, street lighting systems and other infrastructure assets throughout the Village. Disseminates information when required for utility repairs, utility right of way permits or building projects. Would serve as the liaison between Public Works, and the internal GIS consortium.

Temporary Forestry Intern | Public Works Department

The Village of Arlington Heights, a northwest suburb of Chicago, population 75,100 is seeking a temporary Forestry Intern in the Public Works Department. Applicants should be in the process of obtaining a degree in the field of Forestry, Forestry Management, Botany, Ecology or a related field. This position will require knowledge of tree identification and tree physiology.

Applicant must be able to work independently and outdoors for an extended period of time. Computer skills in Microsoft Office and ArcMap are a plus, but not required. Must be a minimum of 18 years old, ability to lift 50 pounds, ability to climb ladders, and operate power tools & equipment.

Temporary On-Call Administrative Assistant

The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of temporary On-Call Administrative Assistant to fill-in at the Senior Center.  This position would work on an as needed basis and the hours would vary depending on the hours of operation; Monday and Wednesday would work hours as needed between 8:00am to 8:15pm; Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:00am to 4:45pm and Saturdays from 8:00am-12:45pm.

This position provides support by performing a variety of activities, such as word processing, data entry and miscellaneous other office duties and must demonstrate exceptional people skills. Responsibilities include coverage of the Senior Center switchboard, program registration and assistance to the Senior Center patrons. The candidate will need to effectively communicate with the Senior Center Manager, Senior Center Main Office Staff and other Agencies.
