Most businesses are only allowed to operate in certain parts of the Village. Contact the Department of Planning and Community Development
to confirm that your business is allowed to operate at the site you have selected, or to help you locate sites which are appropriate.
If you plan to remodel an existing business or build a new location, please be sure to obtain all necessary permits.
Once the site has been selected and all permits obtained, submit the fully completed license application and the emergency contact form along with the required license fee and any additional information as may be required based on the application type for review and approval.
Building Services receives all business license applications and routes the applications to the Fire, Health, Police and Planning departments for comments and approvals. Businesses located in commercial areas are required to have a Fire and Health inspection. The business must be set up for operations and inspected prior to opening to the public. If construction work is part of your project, these inspections will be separate from final inspections on the construction. If you are a State of Illinois licensed professional, please remit a copy of your state license with your application. The following Village departments conduct inspections and reviews for compliance.
Environmental Health Officers conduct on-site inspections to verify compliance with Chapter 11 & 14 of the Municipal Code.
Fire Safety Inspectional Officers conduct on site inspections of the location to verify compliance with all Village adopted fire prevention codes.
The Planning Department verifies that the business is located in the proper zoning district, reviews all applicable development approvals and verifies compliance with parking regulations.
The Police Department conducts background checks on the license applicant and verifies if there are any outstanding fees owed to the Village as wells any outstanding parking tickets or warrants.
Builiding Services also interfaces with various other State agencies regarding licensing, taxes, regulations and compliance.
