Contractor's License
A contractor’s license is required for anyone, other than the property owner, who is doing work in the Village of Arlington Heights, even without compensation. This process involves filling out the contractor’s license application and paying all applicable fees. The Village’s Police Department will also run background checks on all applications before issuance of the license. All contractors must be licensed prior to the issuance of the permit and must renew their license if the project continues into the next calendar year.
Wrecking contractors require a $20,000 surety bond and sewer contractors require a $10,000 surety bond in favor of the Village of Arlington Heights. Only wrecking and sewer contractors are required to have a bond. Roofing contractors are required to provide a copy of their State of Illinois roofers license.
Electrical, plumbing and fire alarm contractors are exempt from our contractor’s license requirement. Instead, they are required only to submit a copy of their license with each permit submittal.
The license fee is prorated after July 1st to half the yearly fee.
It is the contractor’s responsibility to secure the appropriate and necessary building permits and post the cash bonds.
