Building Department

Please contact Building Services before doing any work to determine if you need a permit and what is necessary to apply for your permit. Building Services has permit application checklists, handouts and frequently asked questions available that will guide you through what is required to submit for a building permit. Once you have all the necessary documents, submit them directly to Building Services.  For some projects an initial plan review fee will be due at the time of application. Only fully completed permit submittals can be accepted for review and approval. Building permits must be obtained before work begins.  Work started without a permit will be stopped by Building Services, and will be charged four times the permit fee. 

For new single family homes, single family additions that substantially increase the overall square footage or modifies the exterior appearance of the home and commercial projects please contact the Planning and Community Development Department at (847) 368-5200 for any other requirements.
