Occupancy and Completion of Project

Building Services conducts reviews at all hierarchical levels prior to granting approvals and issuance of pertinent certificates.

For all permit work executed with documents prepared by a structural engineer or architect, a letter indicating completion and code compliance must be prepared by the design professional and submitted to Building Services prior to scheduling the final inspection. The statement must be dated, signed, and sealed by the design professional and submitted 48 hours in advance of the final inspection. The design professional must state that to the best of their knowledge, information, and belief, the structure and all related systems comply in all respects to all applicable codes and match the Village-approved permit drawings.

After receiving the final inspections, the applicant will be required to fill out the request for occupancy form to receive the Certificate of Occupancy. The Building & Property Inspector who inspected the project will notify the applicant within 5 business days when the Certificate of Occupancy is ready.

Building Services will begin processing the bond refund as soon as the final inspection is approved and a Certificate of Occupancy is approved. Generally, it takes three to five weeks for the refund check to be sent out. For concrete/asphalt/brick work, the permit covers one pre-pour and one final inspection by Building and Engineering. Additional inspection charges will be deducted from the bond on file. Approved pre-pour and final inspections are required for bond refund.  If there is not a pre-pour inspection, the bond will be forfeited.

Be sure to apply and set up inspections for a business license, if your business is located in Arlington Heights following the completion of your project.
