The Village’s two registered nurses provide monthly skilled nursing services, for homebound residents. They are involved in the inspection of our day care centers and also provide health screenings and clinics (Some supply costs apply):

The EH staff manages the recycling program, yard waste disposal program, and refuse removal program. The Environmental Health staff works with the citizens of our community in an effort to maintain an environment that provides optimum health, safety, comfort and well being, now and for future generations. Each day, more than 600 senior citizens attend the Arlington Heights Senior Center to participate in a wide array of programs. Additionally, many services are provided to homebound senior citizens. Through the eight organizations that make up the senior center, approximately 12,000 senior citizens and their families are served each year in a “one stop shopping” situation. These agencies include Catholic Charities, Arlington Heights Memorial Library, Arlington Heights Park District, Escorted Transportation Services Northwest, Nurses Club Lending Closet, Community Nutrition Network (CNN), Northwest Community Hospital, and the Village of Arlington Heights. Some of our more outstanding features include:

A touch screen computer tracks the thousands of hours of our volunteers. The senior center publishes a bi-monthly newsletter and calendar of events.
9-1-1 Emergency Registration Program
The information submitted is used to notify emergency response personnel of a person’s physical or cognitive inability to get themselves out of their home on their own, in case of an emergency. It also includes the person's typical location in the home during the day or at night. Emergency response teams get the information at the time of dispatch to a registrant's home.

Emergency Information Packet
This program provides a convenient storage place for important medical information so that it is readily available to emergency response personnel and/or family/friends. Anyone wishing to use this program can simply fill out the forms and place them in the red packet, which should be placed on the front of their refrigerator.

Postal Alert
The Village of Arlington Heights, Lutheran Home & Services and the Arlington Heights Post Office sponsor a free
Postal Alert Program. The postal carriers monitor registrants’ mailboxes for visible mail accumulation to verify their well-being. The program is open to Arlington Heights residents, age 55 and over plus persons with disabilities.
Registration is conducted through the Senior Center: 847.253.5532 or through the
Village of Arlington Heights Web Site. Anyone wishing to register for this program must send his or her completed application to the senior center.
Residential Rapid Entry System
This program provides rapid entry to the Emergency Personnel of the Arlington Heights Fire Department. Residents purchase a Knox Security Box System. After installation of this box near their front door, the Fire Department representative locks the home’s keys in the box, making them available in the time of an emergency to responding firefighters and paramedics. Fire Department Personnel can only open the boxes.
Order forms are available through the Fire Department and the Senior Center.
First-Time Homebuyer Program
Low and moderate income homebuyers may receive up to $14,999 in down payment and closing cost assistance toward the purchase of their first home. The loans are 0% and forgiven over a 5 year period.

Multi-Family Rehab Program
Low interest loans or grants for building improvements are provided to rental property owners who lease a minimum of 51% of the units in a building to low and moderate income tenants at affordable rents.

Single Family Rehab Loan Program
The Village of Arlington Heights offers 0% interest deferred loans to eligible low and moderate-income homeowners for basic home repairs. The principal amount of the loan plus a $100 administrative fee need not be repaid until ownership of the home is transferred.

Refuse Collection Discounts
The Village of Arlington Heights provides a refuse discount for resident senior citizens and persons with disabilities. A 25% discount is available for all-senior households (age 65+) or a senior with younger spouse household. A 50% discount is available to households of senior citizens or citizens with disabilities whose household incomes are at or below $16,000 per year.

Taxi discount
This program is intended to partially defray the cost of transportation to low income senior citizens and persons with disabilities. The Arlington Heights resident must be at least age 65 or have a disability. The annual household income must be less than $23,000.
Applications are available through the Arlington Heights Senior Center, 1801 W. Central Road. The individual must provide proof of residency and income and either proof of age or proof of disability.

Vehilce License Discount
Discounts on passenger car vehicle stickers are available to Arlington Heights residents for one car per family.
Eligible residents are age 65 and over, those with a disability certificate obtained through the Disability Division of the Village Health Department at 847.368.5793, those with disability license plates, or those with a permanent disability placard. The cost of these vehicle stickers is $12.00.
C.A.P. Program
Children at Play (C.A.P) is a before and after school care program. The Village offers a subsidy for residents of Arlington Heights based on a sliding scale according to financial need.

Park District Scholarships
These scholarships are offered to Arlington Heights residents for select Park District programs. The subsidy is based on a sliding scale according to financial need. Each scholarship is reviewed annually (or sooner if deemed necessary by the Human Services Coordinator) and a new application is required to be submitted before the expiration date. The scholarship also covers programs for seniors at the Village’s Senior Center Park District Programs.

Emergency Assistance Application
Counseling Program
The Village of Arlington Heights contracts with several counseling agencies to accept subsidies based on a sliding scale. Applicants must be a resident of Arlington Heights and show financial need. The resident may choose from a number of counseling services and pays a percentage of the counselors’ fees.
