BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR : PLANNING & COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
The Village of Arlington Heights, Illinois, is one of the largest Chicago suburbs with a population of 75,100.  The Village is seeking a well-qualified professional who preferably possesses a Master’s Degree in Business, Economics, Marketing, Urban Planning, Real Estate or a related field, as well as a minimum of 3-5 years experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.  This position reports to the Director of Planning and Community Development and has occasional interaction with the Village Manager. The employee in this position will be responsible for coordinating many challenging economic development programs.  Responsibilities also include attending trade shows, acting as a liaison to the business community and energetically implementing business attraction and retention efforts.  Meets with businesses, real estate professionals and members of the public on a consistent basis.  Knowledge of business plans, financial projections and economic financing tools/programs required.  Applicants should possess excellent computer skills, writing skills and presentation skills.

VEHICLE MAINTENANCE FOREMAN II : PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of Vehicle Maintenance Foreman II in the Public Works Department.

Under general supervision directs and manages the overall planning for the daily operation of fleet service activities to ensure all Village-owned vehicles and operating equipment are maintained in a safe, effective and productive manner. This position oversees the maintenance, inspection, testing and repair of vehicles and equipment; as well as the Village’s fuel dispensing system and equipment, and coordinates with vendors, suppliers, manufacturers and contractors.

Provides direct administration of personnel functions. Responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing the maintenance operations of the fleet services activity as well as developing emergency repair schedules for Village vehicles and equipment. Prepares various daily, weekly and monthly reports.

This position requires a two year college degree or advanced certification in vehicle maintenance training. Five years of experience in municipal fleet management required with two or more of the required years of experience to include lead work or supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Additional requirements include possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class B with air brake and tanker endorsement. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT), and certification through the American Public Works Association as a Certified Public Fleet Professional (CPFP) preferred.

Must be able to respond to emergency callouts. Performs snow and ice control operations as required.

INTERN : PUBLIC WORKS-FORESTRY DEPARTMENT
The Village of Arlington Heights, a northwest suburb of Chicago, population 75,100 is seeking an intern in the Forestry Unit for the summer of 2013. Applicants should be in the process of obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Forestry, Forestry Management, Botany, Ecology, or related fields.

This position will require knowledge of tree identification and tree physiology to perform data collection. Applicant must be able to work independently and outdoors for an extended period of time. Computer skills in Microsoft Office and ArcMap are a plus, but not required.

Assigned tasks will be to collect data from trees on the Village right-of-ways within the Village limits. This will entail collection of specific tree data and input into the tree inventory and assets management system.

Hours for this position will be 6:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday through Thursday, $12.75 per hour. A valid Driver’s License is required.

CERTIFIED POLICE OFFICER

The Village of Arlington Heights population 75,101 is looking for certified applicants to complement our Police Department. The Police Department has 109 Sworn Personnel. Officers work a 6 day on and 3 day off schedule.

Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree or 60 semester hours of credit from an accredited institution.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Vision correctable to 20/20 in both eyes.
  • Pass medical exam including drug screening.
  • Previous status as a certified Police Officer in the State of Illinois for one year after completion of a probationary period. Currently in good standing in the police department in which the person serves.
  • Possess substantially equivalent skills and abilities as a Village of Arlington Heights Police Officer who has completed the probationary period, as determined by the Village, and taken and passed such examinations as the Commission deems necessary to determine fitness for duty as a police officer.
