The Village's Human Resources Department issues all notices and publications for employment opportunities for the Village of Arlington Heights.  These opportunities include internships, seasonal/temporary work, as well as full and part-time employment.

ADMINISTRATIVE INTERN: BUILDING DEPARTMENT
The Village of Arlington Heights a northwest suburb of Chicago, population 75,101, is seeking a Building Services Intern in the Building Department for the summer of 2017. The Building Department is responsible for reviewing plans, issuing permits, and performing inspections of buildings under construction. This position will be working between 20 to 40 hours a week to assist the building services staff by answering phone calls, taking appointment requests, filing permit records, and performing computer data entry tasks, including updating records and moving computer files.

TEMPORARY FORESTRY INTERN: PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
The Village of Arlington Heights, a northwest suburb of Chicago, population 75,100 is seeking a temporary Forestry Intern in the Public Works Department. Applicants should be in the process of obtaining a degree in the field of Forestry, Forestry Management, Botany, Ecology or a related field. This position will require knowledge of tree identification and tree physiology.

Applicant must be able to work independently and outdoors for an extended period of time. Computer skills in Microsoft Office and ArcMap are a plus, but not required. Must be a minimum of 18 years old, ability to lift 50 pounds, ability to climb ladders, and operate power tools & equipment. Hours for this position will be scheduled between 6:00am – 4:30pm, Monday through Friday, $13.50 per hour. A valid Driver’s License is required. This position is temporary and will last until 12/31/2017 and will conclude on that date.

FRONT COUNTER INTERN: FINANCE DEPARTMENT
Applications are being accepted for the position of Front Counter Intern, in the Cashier Division of the Finance Department. The hours 8:30am – 5:00pm, Monday through Friday, for approximately 12 weeks.

Under direct supervision, this position performs money collections paid to the Village within prescribed guidelines. Prepares and processes various receipt forms, receives and posts payments, maintain logs, enters data into the computer and verifies accuracy of payment accounts. Responsibilities include answering inquiries from residents on the phone or in person regarding payments to the Village. Preferred candidate would have a working knowledge of basic clerical/mathematical practices as well as the ability to deal with the public in a courteous manner. In addition, provides backup services to the Finance Department as needed.

Applicant must have basic Microsoft Office skills, telephone skills, accounting and outstanding customer service skills. Applicant must be a minimum of 18 years old and be working towards a degree.

Hourly rate is $15.00 per hour.

PARK COUNSELORS: POLICE DEPARTMENT
The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for Park Counselors in the Police Department.

Must be 21 years of age. Park Counselors ensure voluntary compliance with Park Ordinances and interact with the public. Hours are 7:15p.m. until 11:15p.m. through Labor Day 2017.

SENIOR CENTER INTERN: HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES SENIOR CENTER DIVISION
The Village of Arlington Heights, a northwest suburb of Chicago, population 75,100 is seeking a temporary Senior Center Intern in the Health and Human Services department, for approximately 12 weeks.

Applicant must have basic Microsoft Office skills, telephone skills, and sound organizational skills. Applicant must also be a minimum of 18 years old and working towards a degree in Social Services, Public Administration, Marketing, Gerontology or Recreation. A desire to work with the elderly is a plus.

Hours for this position will be 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, with possible Monday and Wednesday evening hours. Hourly rate is $12.50 per hour.

ON-CALL TEMPORARY REGISTERED NURSE: HEALTH SERVICES DEPARTMENT
The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of on-call temporary Registered Nurse to work on an on-call basis. Work hours may include weekends and Fourth of July. 

Strong immunization screening and vaccine administration skills required. First aid skills also necessary. Must be CPR certified. Candidate should possess strong communication skills. 

A valid State of Illinois license as a Registered Nurse as well as a valid Illinois driver’s license is required. 

Hourly rate for this temporary position is $23.00.

CERTIFIED POLICE OFFICER
The Village of Arlington Heights population 75,101 is looking for certified applicants to complement our Police Department. The Police Department has 109 Sworn Personnel. Officers work a 6 day on and 3 day off schedule. 

Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree or 60 semester hours of credit from an accredited institution
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Vision correctable to 20/20 in both eyes
  • Pass medical exam including drug screening
  • Previous status as a certified Police Officer in the State of Illinois for one year after completion of a probationary period. Currently in good standing in the police department in which the person serves
  • Possess substantially equivalent skills and abilities as a Village of Arlington Heights Police Officer who has completed the probationary period, as determined by the Village, and taken and passed such examinations as the Commission deems necessary to determine fitness for duty as a police officer.
