The Village's Human Resources Department issues all notices and publications for employment opportunities for the Village of Arlington Heights.  These opportunities include internships, seasonal/temporary work, as well as full and part-time employment.

PLANNING ASSISTANT: PLANNING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
The Village of Arlington Heights, Illinois, is one of the largest Chicago suburbs with a population of 75,100. Arlington Heights is known for its progressive planning and award winning downtown, and provides many challenging opportunities to work on exciting and complex development and redevelopment projects. The Village is seeking a well-qualified professional with a Bachelor of Science degree in Urban or Regional Planning or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. This is an entry level position and would be responsible for assisting with the coordination and implementation of various economic development programs and research and or development of proposals and code amendments.

Responsibilities also include assisting with site inspections. Provides support to the Planners within the department on development reviews, Boards & Commissions and administrative tasks. Performs Zoning reviews for building permits and other projects. Applicants should be knowledgeable in the basic principles and practices of community planning, development, and procedures. Applicants should also possess excellent writing and presentation skills, and computer skills, including skills in the use of GIS software, Auto CAD, and Microsoft Office,

ON-CALL TEMPORARY ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR: BUILDING SERVICES DEPARTMENT
The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of on-call temporary Electrical Inspector in the Building Services Department. This temporary position will fill in for the Electrical Inspector due to absences of the Village Electrical Inspector as needed. There are no regularly scheduled hours.

Responsibilities include but not limited to: site inspections and plan review of all residential, commercial, and industrial structures for compliance with the Village Electrical Code. Provides technical assistance to contractors and the general public regarding code before and during construction.

High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) with 5 years in specialized technical training and 5 years of electrical trade experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Must possess a valid Illinois State Driver’s License and have the ability to perform inspections and / or related duties after regular work hours as required. Certification as a Certified Electrical Inspector Master from the International Association of Electrical Inspectors, or Electrical Inspector from the International Code Council is highly preferred.

Minimum hourly rate is $33.40 per hour.

ON-CALL TEMPORARY REGISTERED NURSE: HEALTH SERVICES DEPARTMENT
The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of on-call temporary Registered Nurse to work on an on-call basis. Work hours may include weekends and Fourth of July. 

Strong immunization screening and vaccine administration skills required. First aid skills also necessary. Must be CPR certified. Candidate should possess strong communication skills. 

A valid State of Illinois license as a Registered Nurse as well as a valid Illinois driver’s license is required. 

Hourly rate for this temporary position is $23.00.

CERTIFIED POLICE OFFICER
The Village of Arlington Heights population 75,101 is looking for certified applicants to complement our Police Department. The Police Department has 109 Sworn Personnel. Officers work a 6 day on and 3 day off schedule. 

Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree or 60 semester hours of credit from an accredited institution
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Vision correctable to 20/20 in both eyes
  • Pass medical exam including drug screening
  • Previous status as a certified Police Officer in the State of Illinois for one year after completion of a probationary period. Currently in good standing in the police department in which the person serves
  • Possess substantially equivalent skills and abilities as a Village of Arlington Heights Police Officer who has completed the probationary period, as determined by the Village, and taken and passed such examinations as the Commission deems necessary to determine fitness for duty as a police officer.
