The Village of Arlington Heights continues to take a pro-active approach to monitoring and enhancing the local economic base. Commercial space available is regularly tracked through vacancy surveys and broker referrals. Assistance is provided to retail, commercial, and industrial users. The Village's economic strategy has been successful in attracting new businesses as well as encouraging existing facilities to expand.

Retail Availability
There are 40 shopping centers in the Village with a total of approximately 4.2 million square feet of space. Retail sales in the Village amounted to nearly $1.0 billion in 2009. The Village’s retail facilities enjoy high occupancy rates, strong consumer patronage and above average sales productivity. The Village’s primary retail districts include Downtown, Uptown, and Southtown. Downtown Arlington Heights was voted “One of the Most Desirable Downtowns” in a Daily Herald Newspaper survey.
Office Availability
There is over 5.0 million square feet of office space in the Village of Arlington Heights with a current vacancy rate of 17%. There is nearly 3 million square feet concentrated in the southern and near northern area of the Village. This area is followed in decreasing order of office space by the north area, central area, Arlington Business Center area, and the Arlington Heights / Palatine / Rand Roads area. Industrial Availability
The Village of Arlington Heights has several industrial parks. The office and industrial areas are concentrated on the far south end of the community, at Arlington Heights Road and Interstate Highway 90, and at the far north end of town, east of Illinois Highway 53 between Dundee and Lake-Cook Roads. The Village is one of the largest Chicago suburbs with a population of over 76,000 persons. The Village is located along Illinois Route 53 and Interstate 90, just 8 miles northwest of Chicago O’Hare International Airport. Some of the major employers in the Village include, Paddock Publications, Nokia Siemens, Northwest Community Hospital, Arlington Park Racecourse, and many other quality corporations. Employment in the Village totals nearly 50,000. The Village has four interchanges along Route 53 and one along Interstate 90 (Northwest Tollway). There is a full interchange at the Northwest Tollway and Arlington Heights Road, which is the only full interchange between I-290 and I-294 (O’Hare Airport). Interstate 294 is just 8 miles to the southeast of Arlington Heights via Interstate 90. The Village is also serviced by the Union Pacific (Metra) commuter rail system by two local stops, and by the suburban bus system PACE.
