About The Street Unit
The Street Unit is responsible for the oversight of 240 centerline miles of Village streets and right-of-way. The unit performs the following general duties:
- Snow and ice control operations
- Snow removal from the Downtown Business District
- Snow removal from parking garages and parking lots
- Repair and replace mailboxes damaged by snowplowing operations
- Street pavement maintenance (pothole patching) in winter
- Hot mix asphalt (HMA) repairs on streets and driveways due to utility repairs
- Portland cement concrete (PCC) repairs on streets, curb, sidewalks and driveways due to utility repairs
- Sidewalk grinding to alleviate trip hazards
- Full and partial depth hot mix asphalt (HMA) repairs to asphalt
- Full depth Portland cement concrete (PCC) repairs to concrete streets suffering from deterioration
- Perform paver brick sidewalk maintenance
- Street sweeping and leaf sweeping program
- Daily maintenance, sweeping and cleaning of the four Municipal parking garages
- Annual washdown of the four Municipal parking garages. other equipment repairs
- Responsible for the removal of dead animals in the public Right-of-Way (R.O.W.)
- Responsible for the delivery of barricades for street closures for block parties, parades, and running events
