About The Water Units
Water Distribution Unit
The Water Distribution Unit is responsible for all maintenance and repairs on the Village's potable water distribution system including water mains, fire hydrants, valves and vaults, buffalo boxes and other water system related appurtenances. The unit performs the following general duties:
- Water main repairs
- Fire hydrant repair & replacement
- Service line repair & replacement
- Water valve exercising & repair and replacement
- Buffalo box repair & replacement
- Water utility locates
Water Production Unit
The Water Production Unit is responsible for the oversight and repair of potable water facilities including tanks, pumps and wells and similar sewer system operations. The unit performs the following general duties:
- Water sampling
- Record keeping and submittal to meet IEPA reporting requirements
- Respond to citizen inquiries regarding water quality

The mission of the Illinois EPA is to safeguard environmental quality, consistent with the social and economic needs of the State, so as to protect health, welfare, property and the quality of life. Public Works has certified IEPA Class C Potable Water Operators on staff.
