about HUMAN SERVICES
The Human Services program frequently requires the combined and coordinated efforts and resources of various Health Services staff.  The Human Services program of the Health Services Department is concerned with the general social needs of the community and its citizens. The Human Services program frequently requires the combined and coordinated efforts and resources of various Health Services staff.  The areas of responsibility of the Human Services Coordinator are as follows:

Housing
Assistance is provided to residents and transients with emergency housing and shelter needs.  Information and referrals are available regarding agencies which provide housing services.  For information on affordable housing, see Planning Department.

 
Emergency Financial Assistance
With funds from the Village of Arlington Heights, Salvation Army, Arlington Heights Clergy Fellowship Association and others, financial assistance is provided to residents with emergency financial needs such as a rent and utility payments, food vouchers, prescriptions etc. Donations from residents who wish to assist our less fortunate residents are gratefully accepted and very much needed. Counseling
Counseling assistance is provided to residents either by direct provision of services or by referring residents to community agencies. The latter usually occurs when the area of need is beyond the expertise of the Department or the problem requires extended length of treatment.
 
Information and Referral
This service is provided to all people requesting help to address social needs for themselves or their family members.
 
Senior Citizen Refuse Discount
Applications are processed for requests for 50% discounts.
 
Employment Assistance
Residents are referred to appropriate job centers for training and placement when necessary. Referrals are also made to employers requesting assistance in obtaining applicants for their businesses.
 
Day Care
Assistance is provided to residents in obtaining day care, either through Village funded programs (Child and Infant Day Care, and the CAP Program) or through other child day care providers in the area.
 
Public Awareness
Education is provided to various community organizations and church groups as to the social needs of the community and sensitizes them to the need to cooperate with all interested and concerned parties.
