Roadway Crack Sealing Program Under Way

The Village’s crack sealing maintenance program is under way to help extend the life cycle of street pavements. The program lasts for about two weeks and is an efficient procedure that helps prevent moisture from getting under pavement and thereby increasing the rate of roadway degradation.
Crack sealing is usually done three years after a resurfacing or reconstruction to minimize additional cracking. The work is messy, but necessary to extend the life cycle of pavement. Before applying sealant, workers must rout the existing cracks and use an air compressor to blow away any loose dirt or debris from the cracked area.
