Volunteers Needed for Adopt-a-Hydrant Program

Volunteers Needed for Adopt-a-Hydrant Program
Posted on 12/29/2017

Arlington Heights residents can take an active role in helping to keep their community be safe by participating in the “Adopt-A-Fire Hydrant” program.  Volunteers interested in assisting the Fire Department to care for over 7,500 hydrants can simply adopt a fire hydrant by filling out this online form.

The following tasks are asked to be done on an ongoing basis of an Adopt –A-Fire Hydrant volunteer:

Maintain a 3-foot radius around the fire hydrant free and clear of snow and shrubbery.

Watch for evidence of fire hydrant vandalism or removal of caps.

Call Public Works at 847.368.5800 if you notice the hydrant leaking or observe other damage.

Since the Fire Department provides critical services when seconds matter, this program is especially important for the department when snowfall makes finding and accessing fire hydrants difficult. Please consider finding a fire hydrant close to where you live, and once you have located the hydrant you want to “adopt,” fill out our Adopt-A-Fire Hydrant form to help us monitor how many hydrants will be watched over this winter. An appreciation certificate will be issued to you and/or your group upon adopting a fire hydrant.

The Arlington Heights Fire Department appreciates your help in becoming partners with us in this community program.
