Fire displaces multiple families in Arlington Heights

Fire Department News Release 1.12.23PressReleaseFireDepartmentAt approximately 11:55 p.m., on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, the Arlington Heights Fire Department was called for an activated fire alarm at a large multi-family residence in the 2300 E. block of Olive Street, in Arlington Heights.

Dispatch received multiple calls reporting the alarm and smoke on the first-floor hallway. First arriving crews found a fully involved first floor unit.

Crews made entry into the involved unit and quickly had water on the fire. An interior search was conducted and one resident was found and removed from the unit. Due to heavy smoke, a search/evacuation was established in units adjacent to the fire unit. Additional living units were also evacuated throughout the building. The main fire damage was contained to the unit of origin. Heavy smoke damage was sustained on the first floor.

The resident removed from the fire unit was treated on scene for life-threatening injuries and transported to a local hospital. The cause of the fire is still under investigation with assistance from the State Fire Marshal’s office and the Arlington Heights Police Department. Approximately 30 firefighters from 6 surrounding departments responded to the incident. There were no firefighter injuries during the incident.
