Car Emergency Kit

Prepare Your Car

With busy schedules and changing forecasts, you may not have the time to secure essential emergency items if dangerous weather moves in suddenly. Hopefully, you may already have many items on-hand.  If not, take some time to prepare and organize a Car Emergency Kit with these suggested items...

  • Water
  • Cell Phone and charger
  • Blankets and/or sleeping bags
  • Flashlight with extra batteries
  • First-Aid kit
  • Extra clothing, including socks, gloves and scarves
  • Shovel
  • Booster cables
  • Windshield scraper/brush
  • Tool kit
  • Sack of sand or cat litter
  • Small can and matches to melt snow for drinking water
  • High-calorie, non-perishable food
  • Knife

You can further help yourself by winterizing your car.  Make a note to check your wipers, tires, lights, and fluid levels regularly and lubricate your trunk and doors to prevent them from freezing.

Refer to the checklist above to prepare a small, but mighty Winter Storm Car Kit to carry in your vehicle - - even if going on short trips, as you may have to wait several hours for roadside assistance if there is an accident or the car breaks down.

And always remember 9-1-1 or your car's emergency system, such as OnStar.  Do not hesitate to call in an emergency.
