Full-Time Positions


Storekeeper| Public Works Department

The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of full time Storekeeper. 

This position is responsible for the maintenance of the Public Works storeroom. Responsibilities include receiving, storing, and issuing various parts, equipment, material and supplies including automotive, janitorial, water meters, clothing, small tools and other needed materials for various units of Public Works. In addition would perform simple mechanic operations on autos and trucks such as oil changes, wiper replacements and fluid checks and the pickup and distribution of automotive parts and other miscellaneous supplies. Other duties include administering the Village’s auction and surplus program, verification of orders and data entry to track inventory and related information.

Requirements include a high school or equivalent (G.E.D.) with 3 years’ experience in storekeeping, inventory control, or recordkeeping, performing automotive and truck repairs and maintenance operations. In addition, experience with automotive and truck parts or general storeroom; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Additional requirements include the possession of a valid Illinois Commercial Driver’s License Class A with airbrake and tanker endorsements or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire and to be able to respond to emergency callouts.

Public Service Officer II | Police Department

The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for two Public Service Officer II positions in the Police Department. This position is a uniformed, unarmed civilian employee who performs a law enforcement support role.

Under general supervision, provides a variety of law enforcement support functions in the Police Department such as enforcing select ordinance and parking violations, controlling the flow of vehicle or pedestrian traffic at incidents or events, providing assistance in the collection of basic evidence items at a crime scene, assistance in the processing of prisoners and other duties as assigned. Additionally performs desk duties such as answering non-emergency calls, data entry, communicating with and assisting police officers in the field, providing directions and other miscellaneous administrative tasks. Investigate and file reports involving traffic accidents and non-critical incidents. Handles domestic and wildlife animal complaints to include impounding, trapping and documenting through a report.

Minimum qualifications include an Associate’s degree and one to three years of previous experience, LEADS Certification, Euthanasia Certification, Tranquilizer Gun Certification and Child Safety Seat Certification within one year of hire or a combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. May be assigned to work one of three shifts. Minimum starting salary for this position is $67,649. Includes excellent benefits package.

Public Works  Department|Summer Help

The Village of Arlington Heights is seeking temporary help in the Public Works Department for the summer of 2019. This position is full-time (40 hours a week). This position performs general outdoor maintenance tasks. Requirements include a valid driver’s license, the ability to lift 50 lbs, must be able to climb ladders, and operate power tools and equipment. Must be a minimum of eighteen years old and be enrolled in a full-time college degree program.

Minimum hourly rate is $12.30.

The Village of Arlington Heights , a northwest suburb of Chicago with a population 75,101, is seeking Civil Engineering Interns in the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department for the summer of 2019. These positions assist project engineers in design, field layout, and construction inspection of roadway, sidewalk, and utility improvements. Duties also involve assisting the traffic engineer with various traffic studies. Candidates must have completed at least one year in accredited engineering program.

Planning & Community Development Intern
The Village of Arlington Heights, a northwest suburb of Chicago with a population 75,100, is seeking an Intern in the Planning & Community Development Department for the summer of 2019. Applicants should possess or be in the process of obtaining a Bachelors or Masters Degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, or related field.

Intern will work on a variety of projects including downtown redevelopment, code review, and other special studies as required. Applicant should possess computer skills in Microsoft Office and CAD. Hourly rate for this temporary position is $12.00.
