The Legal Department provides service in three general areas: administrative, legislative, and litigation. The administrative function includes advising Village Staff as well as elected and appointed officials. The legislative function includes drafting ordinances and maintaining the Village Code. With regards to litigation, there is a Village Prosecutor who handles the Village monthly traffic court calls. Department Staff oversee outside counsel as they represent the Village in lawsuits and assist in the administrative adjudication process. 







Legal Services
  • Research and preparation of ordinances.
  • Oversee Freedom of Information (FOIA) Requests throughout Village Departments. 
  • Preparation, negotiation and review of all contracts and agreements entered into between the Village and other parties.
  • Interpretation and application of ordinances, statutes and judicial decisions regarding particular situations including HIPPA, FOIA and OMA.
  • Ensuring the Village consistently complies with existing and newly passed federal and state laws.
  • Oversee requests for vacation of unimproved public right-of-way.
  • Reviews documents related to transactions to which the Village is a party, as well as dealing with the Village’s interest in real and personal property
  • Participating in matters of negotiations including collective bargaining, and negotiations between the Village and other parties.
  • Maintain the Municipal Code.
