Arlington Heights is committed to the safety and protection of its citizens.  It is the purpose of both Citizen Observer and Arlington Alert to provide notifications and updates to keep the public well informed. 

When you sign up for Arlington Alerts, you can receive emergency and/or community messages about your neighborhood, your parents' home, your workplace, and your child's school pertaining to garbage/refuse pickup & changes, winter operations, special events, public safety, water utility outages, and major road closures.  You choose what alerts you'd like to receive and where you'd like to receive them.

Get alerts for emergencies and other important community news by signing up for the Arlington Alert program serving Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Elk Grove Village, Hoffman Estates, Inverness, Mount Prospect, Palatine, Prospect Heights, Rolling Meadows, Schaumburg and Streamwood. The emergency notification system enables your Community to provide you with critical information quickly in a variety of situations, such as severe weather occurrences, critical road closures, missing persons, and  the potential evacuation of buildings or neighborhoods. Some Communities have opted to share even more updates, be sure to check with you municipality for addition information.

Citizen Observer

The Arlington Heights Police Department, with the support of Crime Stoppers Inc., is contracting with Citizen Observer to instantly provide residents and businesses with crime alerts and prevention information through email and text messaging. 

  • Citizen Alerts inform all registered users of public safety concerns in your area. The Alerts contain information about crime trends, descriptions of suspects, missing persons, as well as advice on personal safety, and how to safeguard property. 
  • Business Alerts are targeted to specific business types, so your business will receive information about crimes that are pertinent to you and your employees. 
  • Case Alerts allow law enforcement to automatically disseminate information about active investigations to all registered Citizen Observer users. 
  • Watch Group Alerts allow law enforcement to send targeted alerts to specific neighborhoods with information about crimes that are happening in their immediate area.  

Citizen Observer works with over 300 law enforcement agencies in 30 states. The goal of the program is to get relevant and timely information out to those who want to partner with the Arlington Heights Police Department in keeping residents safe, preventing crimes and possibly solving crimes. To sign-up for the free program, register at  The system allows users to send anonymous crime tips to the Arlington Heights Police Department. This feature compliments the existing Crime Stoppers tip line 847-590-STOP. Tips to Crime Stoppers are kept confidential. If a caller’s information results in the arrest and the filing of criminal charges the caller can receive a cash reward. All rewards are determined and approved by the Board of Directors.
