Youth Citizen Police Academy

The purpose of the Youth Police Academy is to increase communication, awareness and understanding about the role of law enforcement in society today. The program provides an opportunity for students to learn about law enforcement and develop a partnership with the Police Department.

What Is a Youth Police Academy?
Modeled after our successful Citizens Police Academy, the Youth Police Academy is an educational program designed to give youth an inside view of municipal police work. The program combines classroom and practical exercises, with an emphasis having fun while learning. It should be noted that the Academy is not a boot camp or program for rebellious teens.

Who Are the Instructors?
The instructors are Arlington Heights Police Officers and Fire Fighters who teach their own area of expertise. Each has years of training and real-life experience in their subject fields.

What Subjects Are Included?

• Orientation and Police Station Tour
• Traffic Law, Police Pursuits and Vehicle Stops
• Arson Investigation and Fire Department Practical
• Forensics Practical
• Crime Scene Investigations
• Drone Demonstration
• Presentation on police training and firearms safety training
• K9 Demonstration and Graduation

Requirements?
The Academy is open to any AH resident and/or student enrolled at an Arlington Heights school between the ages of 13-17 (incoming 8^th graders to HS Seniors).

Parental consent is required to attend this free Academy. Note- Students will not shoot firearms, but may handle demonstration weapons. Interested students should complete the application and return it to the Arlington Heights Police Department’s Crime Prevention Unit. Participants will be notified upon selection for the Academy. The Youth Police Academy is offered at no cost to the participant.
