An Illinois Army Guard Blackhawk helicopter is expected to land in a soccer field across from Recreation Park, weather permitting, and be open to tours as part of Arlington Heights’ Centennial Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony, held on Monday, May 27.

The helicopter is scheduled to land around 10:30 a.m. in a soccer field along Douglas Avenue, adjacent to American Legion Post 208 and across from Recreation Park, 500 E. Miner St. The Army National Guard Blackhawk helicopter will be on site with the air crew offering public tours of the helicopter until approximately 2:30 p.m.

To ensure safety at this event, the soccer field will be fenced off the day before and there will be one entry and one exit point for visitors. Arlington Heights Police and volunteers will be on site the entire time to manage traffic and crowds. For this day, Douglas Ave will be changed to ONE WAY going SOUTH and Hickory Avenue will be changed to ONE WAY going NORTH. Visitors will use street parking.

Again, residents are reminded that this event is weather dependent.

Arlington Heights’ Centennial Memorial Day will also be recognized with the Memorial Day Parade, which will step off from Village Hall, Sigwalt and Arlington Heights Road at 9:30 a.m., Monday, May 27. The parade is dedicated to thanking all of our veterans for their service.

Immediately following the parade is the Memorial Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. in Memorial Park located at Chestnut and Fremont Streets. This Ceremony honors our Fallen Heroes … especially Arlington’s Fallen Heroes – the 58 young men from our community who died in the service of our Nation – from the Civil War to Afghanistan.

We appreciate your patience and support for this very special event. For questions, please contact Greg Padovani, Chairman, Veterans Memorial Committee of Arlington Heights.
