DEA Drug Takeback Day 2021

Drug Take Back Day: Oct. 23, 2021
Posted on 10/19/2021

Bring unwanted or expired prescriptions to the Arlington Heights Police Department for safe, free, and anonymous disposal on Saturday, October 23, 2021, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., as part of the National Take-Back initiative.

On this date, the Arlington Heights Police Department will once again participate in the DEA National Drug Take Back Day and will coordinate their efforts with other law enforcement agencies across the country in an effort to remove potentially dangerous controlled substances from homes. The service is free and anonymous.

Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high. More Americans currently abuse prescription drugs than the number of those using cocaine, hallucinogens, and heroin combined. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. The National Take-Back initiative will provide the public an opportunity to surrender expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications. Liquid products, intra-venous solutions, and syringes will not be accepted.

Can't make it to the event? No worries! You can bring unwanted prescription medications to the Arlington Heights Police Department, 24/7, year-round, for safe, free, and anonymous disposal.
