Distracted Driving Month Enforcement Results
Posted on 05/05/2022

The Arlington Heights Police Department participated in the National Distracted Driving Awareness Campaign throughout the month of April. The nationwide campaign focused not only on strict enforcement of distracted driving laws, but also on educational efforts aimed at spreading the message, ‘DROP IT AND DRIVE’.

Increased enforcement efforts of the Arlington Heights Police Department resulted in over 500 citations for distracted driving during the month. ‘We have been seeing an increase in the number of vehicles on the roadway as compared to the same time last year during the pandemic. Our enforcement and educational efforts continue to serve as a reminder of the substantial dangers associated with distracted driving.’ The Arlington Heights Police Department utilized social media, electronic roadway signs and various banners to further the message throughout the Village.

The Illinois distracted driving campaign is funded with federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
