Memorial Day 2021: Honoring and Remembering Our Nation's Fallen Heroes
Posted on 05/24/2021

From the Veterans Memorial Committee of Arlington Heights:
As always, Memorial Day is dedicated to honoring and remembering our Nation’s Fallen Heroes.  In Arlington Heights, we especially honor and remember Arlington’s Fallen Heroes – the 58 individuals from our town who died in the service of our Nation – from the Civil War to Afghanistan.

In past Memorial Days, our town hosted a parade of approximately 3,000 marchers with 5,000 to 8,000 viewers.  Our Memorial Day Ceremony at Memorial Park has been attended by approximately 1,500 people.  Even with loosening of COVID restrictions, gatherings of this magnitude would be not wise – especially since 50% of participants are children, who have yet to be vaccinated.

Our town has three major initiatives for Memorial Day 2021 that we invite everyone to become involved:

  1. Memorial Day Sign – Arlington Remembers our Fallen Heroes  This sign displays our town’s theme for every Memorial Day.  Most importantly, the backside displays the names of all 58 Arlington’s Fallen Heroes.  We ask that you print this sign and display it in your homes, businesses, schools, churches, etc.  Please remember that many families and friends of Arlington’s Fallen Heroes still reside in the area.  It means so much to them to see these sign and know that the people of Arlington Heights have not forgotten their loved ones.
  2. Memorial Day Ceremony Video – Please view this video. Also, this video will begin airing on Village of Arlington Heights channels on May 24, 2021 (COMCAST 17, WOW 9, Uverse 99). On page 3 of the Program, you will see the 127 names of area veterans who passed away in the previous 12 months. We list their names to honor their service to our Nation and to offer condolences to their families and friends.
  3. Memorial Day Drive By Salute –  To honor our Fallen Heroes and our veterans on Memorial Day, May 31, 2021, please drive by Memorial Park in Arlington Heights from 9 am to 11 am.  Directions and details can be found here.
