The Arlington Heights Senior Center and its tenant agencies at 1801 W. Central Road has re-opened to a modified schedule of activities with adequate social distancing measures and health standards in place. The health protocols for re-opening the Senior Center during Phase 4 of Restore Illinois have been approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Village. The health and safety is of the upmost importance for our patrons, volunteers and staff.

The Senior Center, which had a soft reopening on July 6, will be open Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. for the foreseeable future. During this phase of re-opening, patrons entering the facility will need to complete a health questionnaire and a temperature check will be conducted by Senior Center staff. For the convenience of our patrons, a drop box is installed outside the Senior Center’s main doors to drop off registration, payments and other correspondence. All drop-in programs at the Senior Center are suspended until further notice including programs such as billiards, card playing, mah jonng, ping pong and Wii.

At this time, pre-registration for classes is required for all participants. Registration information and a program schedule can be found in the most recent edition of the Senior Center newsletter.

Beginning July 13, the Reading Room will be open with limited capacity to browse and check out materials from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.  All Reading Room visitors will need to complete the Senior Center’s health screening and will be admitted to the Reading Room as space is available.  The collection of materials has been arranged to support social distancing and self-checkout is encouraged.  A reduced number of computers are available with use limited to one-hour.

Reading areas, newspapers and hold pickups will not be available at this time.  Returns of Arlington Heights library materials, including Reading Room items, can be made in the outside book drop to the west of Senior Center entrance. The library is not currently accepting donations.

The Senior Center opens to a new Manager, Tracey Colagrossi, who replaces former Manager Karen Hansen who retired earlier this year. “The staff and our tenant agencies are looking forward to having our patrons return to the building,” said new Senior Center Manager, Tracey Colagrossi. “We have made careful plans to provide programs and services with modifications and adhering to guidelines from the Illinois Department of Public Health to ensure everyone’s safety.”

Before joining the Arlington Heights Senior Center, Tracey Colagrossi was the Director of Aging Services for Hanover Township in Bartlett, the president of the Association of Illinois Senior Centers, and the Chairperson of the Executive Council for the National Institutes of Senior Centers.
