National Burn Week: Burning Issues in the Kitchen

The Arlington Heights Fire Department is recognizing National Burn Awareness Week, Feb. 6 – 12th. This year’s theme is “Burning Issues in the Kitchen,” the place in your home where a common risk of injury exists from scald burns, improperly used appliances, and distracted cooking. Annually, in the United States, approximately 400,000 people receive medical care for treatment of burn injuries. In 2018, there were 3,655 deaths from fire and smoke inhalation and 47% of all home fires are caused by cooking.
