Village’s Proposed Budget Decreases 9.2 Percent
The proposed Village budget of $134,725,118 for the Fiscal Year beginning May 1, 2010, represents a decrease of 9.2% over last year’s budget. The proposal reflects the elimination of 30 staff positions attained through lay-offs, vacant positions and attrition, concessions from Fire Fighters’ Local 3105, delaying non-union wage adjustments for employees for six months, as well as capital expenditure cuts and debt service reductions.
In preparing the Fiscal Year 2011 budget, the Village has taken an aggressive approach to budget deficits that emerged because of declining revenues due to the economic downturn, and continued upward pressures on expenditures. Other significant service cuts made include the closing of the Teen Center, which has been open since 1981, the elimination of the “Too Good for Drugs” program where two police officers worked in local schools, and a reduction in tree trimming and tree removal services.
